Equal Rights For All Protected By Law


We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, the second sentence of our Declaration of Independence.  I firmly believe that all individuals should be treated equal and these sacred rights upon which our country was established should be codified into the law of the land and upheld by the government.  Unfortunately, it has taken our government a very long time to achieve these goals as stated for the creation of our country.  Individuals have fought and died to in order to achieve equal rights for themselves and others.  The bloody civil war, women's suffrage, the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, and more recently equality concerning marriage.  Progress has been made, but more has to be done.  Individuals need protection concerning discrimination based on sexual orientation.  Women deserve equal pay for equal work as a matter of law.  Women have the right to make their own medical decisions.  Racism should not be tolerated as a matter of law and individual actions. The government must uphold the laws that are on the books that protect the individual.   Adequate funds must be allocated in order for these laws to work properly. This is what I believe in and will work to achieve.    


I made life easier for my patients while a resident at Henry Ford Hospital and as a member of the Medical Corps while serving at Comp Lejeune concerning appointment times.  I advocated for my black Marine patients who could not shave daily if they had pseudofolliculitis. As the Chief of Dermatology at the Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital I battled the higher command for the patients to be treated with respect and dignity in that very socialized medical setting.  The commanding officer of the hospital retaliated by denying me any vacation leave during my last year in service. 


My campaign is about empowering the individual concerning the person's relationship with the government.  The individual must stick up for the status of having been created equal by our Creator and endowed with unalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
